pastichenoun 1) A literary, musical, or artistic piece consisting wholly or chiefly of motifs or techniques borrowed from one or more sources; 2) an incongruous combination of materials, forms, motifs, etc., taken from different sources; hodgepodge.

(definition by Dictionary.com)

pastichenoun 1) A source of delight and amusement to those in the know, and a thing both peculiar and mystifying to those who aren’t; 2) a niche market product.

(definition by me)

The western meets the eastern in The Warrior’s Way.

I laughed. I thrilled. I went “aw.” I laughed again.

Korean superstar Dong-gun Jang is the eastern hero,

Kate Bosworth is the western heroine,

Geoffrey Rush is the old drunk gunfighter,

Danny Huston is the rapacious bandit,

Hong Kong legend Ti Lung is the ninja master,

Tony Cox is ringmaster of the non-traveling circus,

and the baby is just adorable.

It was great. I loved it.

The Warrior’s Way is available on DVD and Blu-ray.  The meager extras are deleted scenes and a “behind the scenes montage.” The Blu-ray also comes with a digital copy of the film.

Stay Away From this Movie!

We haven’t had to do one of these for awhile. We say in unison: stay away from Sucker Punch!

Other new releases this week: Barney’s Version, Beastly, Season of the Witch, Sucker Punch

  1. I thought this was really fun, too, and I loved the hyper-artificiality or over-the-topness of it all.

  2. Oooh! I thought The Warrior’s Way was really intriguing when it came out and certainly, it looks like the best option as far as DVDs this week. I shall check it out! Cool recommendation Helen :)

    • It came and went here. Fortunately I’d been watching for it since the trailer made it look like so much fun. And yeah, no contest on the dvd rec front this week.
