My weekend picks for the upcoming month at the multiplex. The full release schedule by date (with links to the films’ IMDb pages) is at the end.
November 5– Due Date
Strong shades of Planes, Trains and Automobiles: Robert Downey Jr. is the family man with a deadline and Zach Galifianakis is the oddball he somehow gets stuck traveling cross-country with in this buddy comedy/road movie. Directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover).
November 12– Unstoppable
Can they put the brakes on the runaway train before disaster strikes?! I sense a nail-biter, down to the wire finish! Seriously though, this is the multiplex release I’m most looking forward to seeing in November. I anticipate a fast-paced action-thriller good time at the movies. Denzel Washington headlines with rising star Chris Pine (Star Trek), and it was directed by Washington’s frequent collaborator Tony Scott (Man on Fire, The Taking of Pelham 123).
November 19– Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1
Needs no introduction, surely. Penultimate film in the series and everyone’s back (well, everyone whose character survived the last film), including David Yates (Half-Blood Prince) behind the camera.
November 24– Faster
Dwayne Johnson is back in action mode in this revenge story shoot-em-up directed by George Tillman Jr (Notorious, Men of Honor). Billy Bob Thornton in pursuing cop mode co-stars. Carla Gugino is also in the cast. I don’t know how big a part she has, but however big it is, it’s a plus.
